What are the benefits of academic education for the career of a meeting professional? Is now a good time to go back to school or is academic study of no use to business minded meeting professionals? You are the jury, and you have the final say!
    

Join MPI UK & Ireland Chapter in a trial on the value of academia. Judge Shaun Casey (Director, Lameca Limited) with be presiding over this session which promises to offer a lively discussion on this always relevant topic. Leading the defence of academia will be Rob Davidson (Senior Lecturer in Events Management, University of Greenwich Business School) and Denise Harris (Lecturer in Event Management, Thames Valley University). These two expert academics have lectured the UK’s leading Universities preparing hundreds of students for life as a meeting professional. The prosecution will be lead by David Hornby (Why Not UK), who’s career in the meetings industry includes the leading roles at Visit London and as part of the 2018 England World Cup bid. David has been involved with the industry from an early age starting his career on the hotel side of the industry.
 
This court case is of the utmost importance to the meetings industry and both sides are currently preparing their case in great depth.
 
The Judge has asked for evidence that can answer the following questions:
•    Does academic study increase employability?
•    Do salary levels increase as a result of academic study?
•    Does academic study increase international recognition?
•    How does academic study affect career paths?
•    Is a CMP or other industry certification more useful than academic study?
